Apparently it was a nice day for a white wedding

Forget about a white Christmas, for these lucky lovebirds it was all about a white wedding. 

Newlyweds Carly and Chris Atwill were thrilled to be caught in a blizzard on their first day of marital bliss.

The magical day of matrimony took place at Lartington Hall in Barnard Castle, County Durham at the weekend.

A freak snowstorm saw eight inches of fresh powder fall on their special day

The couple were delighted that their wish for a winter wonderland wedding came true. 

Snow began to fall at the start of the ceremony on Saturday.

When the bride, groom and their guests reemerged an hour later snow had given the area a magical appearance. 

Unsurprisingly, the photos are simply stunning.

The snow began to fall at the beginning of the ceremony on Saturday

Wedding photographer Paul Liddement captured a series of incredible shots of the happy pair. 

The groom held a white umbrella over the bride's head as he dipped her for a romantic kiss. 

Bustling bride Carly, 30, works in the family business making and selling Land Rover parts. 

She said: "We were absolutely thrilled when we saw the snow, it felt so magical."
