Life has been trudging on despite the war for many Syrians who remain at home. For newly-weds Nada Merhi, 18, and Hassan Youssef, a 27-year-old Syrian army soldier, living on also meant getting married.
The young couple got their striking wedding portraits done on Friday in Homs, a city devastated by the conflict. According to AFP, the Syrian wedding photographer in charge of the photo shoot hoped the pictures would show that "life is stronger than death."
The photos emerge just days after drone footage showed almost complete destruction in Homs, which has been the scene of both Syrian army and militant attacks in recent weeks.
Despite the violence, similar displays of hopeful defiance have appeared throughout the Syrian conflict, now entering its sixth year. In 2014, pianist Aeham al-Ahmad became famous for his street performances, set against the backdrop of rubble in Damascus' Yarmouk refugee camp.
