If you are a photography student or a photographer trying to get a project off the ground, the Royal Photographic Society (RPS) may be able to help. The society is offering bursaries to help students and photographers fund their projects. The financial assistance can be used to help aspects of a project such as travel, equipment, website or mounting an exhibition.
This year, the RPS Bursaries are the Environmental Awareness Project Funding (£6,000), the Joan Wakelin Bursary (£2,000), the Postgraduate Bursary (£3,500) and the Short Film Award (£2,000). Postgraduate, 2016: Aenikkaeng by Michael Vince KimMichael Vince Kim/Royal Photographic Society The Environmental Awareness Project Funding (£6,000) offers funding for two one-year projects that will promote environmental awareness, in partnership with The Photographic Angle. The two awards are available for applicants aged between 16-30 and 31 years and over. Closing date: 31 May 2017
Postgraduate Bursary (£2,000) aims support postgraduate students undertaking photographic research or studying photography at Postgraduate level. Closing date: 30 June 2017

Joan Wakelin Bursary, 2016: Leprosy by Matilda TemperleyMatilda Temperley/Royal Photographic Society Joan Wakelin Bursary (£2,000) offers funding and the chance to have work published in the Guardian and The RPS Journal. The Bursary is awarded to the photographer who presents the best proposal for a photographic essay on an overseas social documentary issue. The Joan Wakelin Bursary also offers the chance to have work published in the Guardian and The RPS Journal. Closing date: 16 June 2017
Short Film Award (£2,000): The RPS will announce a short film award and best cinematography award, in partnership with Depict. Closing date: 3 July 2017
