Indiana Fever star Tamika Catchings shared the most appropriate wedding photo ever to announce her nuptials Tuesday afternoon.
Catchings, who had told Eyewitness News sports reporter Rich Nye she had planned to marry Parnell Smith in March, posted a photo to Instagram that showed the couple tied the knot a little early. According to a New York Times article last July, the couple met two years ago and Smith "popped the question" in April.
The picture shows the couple smiling on the floor of Bankers Life Fieldhouse, with the WNBA All-Star and three-time Olympic gold medalist in a flowing white dress and heels, holding a basketball above her head. Smith is watching closely in a defensive stance.
"A lil wedding fun with @smittyp3!" Catchings wrote, noting she "#GotHimInTheHeels."
She credits the photo to Indianapolis-based photographer Chris Bucher, who also posted it to his Facebook page.
Catchings and Smith were married Sunday afternoon in a small, private ceremony at the Skyline Club atop the One America Building in Indianapolis. The photo was taken Sunday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
Smith is a former Pike basketball player who played on the state championship teams in 2001 and 2003.
Catchings is headed to the NBA All-Star week in Toronto, where she has some official duties.
Catchings, who is a finalist to make another Olympic team this summer in Rio, has announced her plans to retire after the upcoming WNBA season. She will participate in some activities this weekend at the NBA All-Star Weekend in Toronto and help with a clinic put on by former Fever teammate Tammy Sutton-Brown.
