Jerseyville photographer takes her art to next level

Jody Jedlicka, of Jerseyville, is on her last week of juggling three full time gigs, photographer, internet car salesperson and student. Jedlicka has ran "Photographic Imagery by Jo" from her home in Jerseyville, until recently. Now she rents a studio space at Jacoby Arts Center in Alton.

Jedlicka has a knack for a type of "street photography," delving into candid yet private moments, shared between Jedlicka and her subjects. Though wedding photography is her mainstay she has quite a booming business doing pin-up and boudoir photography, as well as family shoots.

JERSEYVILLE — Jody Jedlicka is on her last week of juggling three full time gigs, photographer, internet car salesperson and student.

As with many folks, she has had to decide to concentrate on making her dreams a reality. For the last three years, Jedlicka has ran "Photographic Imagery by Jo" from her home in Jerseyville, until recently. Now she rents a studio space at Jacoby Arts Center in Alton to expand her business reach and make it more convenient to work afternoons, while coming home from Fontbonne College in St. Louis.

Finishing her Bachelor of Fine Arts and going straight into graduate school has been a tough challenge along with holding down two jobs — well, three if you count painting. She does oil painting, film and digital photography in several different disciplines, including weddings, boudoir, pin-ups, family portraits and biker pics, all done with a particular signature style not duplicated by other area artists.

"Making photographs has always been a part of my life," Jedlicka said. "It did not occur to me until late in the game that this was also art. It is my goal to capture the emotion and the human side of individuals and groups. Capturing these things, without the work becoming less than genuine is my challenge."

That being said, many of the photographs lend themselves to a type of "street photography," delving into candid yet private moments, shared between Jedlicka and her subjects.

Though wedding photography is her mainstay she has quite a booming business doing pin up and boudoir photography as well as family shoots. She plans to take photos at this years Jerseyville Halloween Parade and offer photos from her website for a nominal fee.

She also is looking forward to fall and the approaching holiday season. Her mini sessions start at $100 and other booking prices can be asked about by emailing her at [email protected] or [email protected] or find and like her page on Facebook. Jedlicka also can be reached at 618-570-4406.
